|Thank you for supporting the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation! Your contribution is greatly appreciated.|
I was a cyclist before cycling became popular. Cycling was faster than walking and you can get where you want quicker if you don’t have a vehicle.
I had been a member of the EBTC (Edmonton Bicycle and Touring Club) nearly since its’ inception 35 years ago. But when children and family arrived it became more difficult to participate. When I was nearing age 50 I wanted to try the BIG challenges. I met Nick Lees and joined his “Back of the Pack” group to run marathons for charity. I ran 4 marathons, many half-marathons, countless shorter distances, some triathlon and of course the Birkie.
At that time I also got back on my bike and did a number of rides since 2006 such as the San Juan Gulf Islands, Paris to Istanbul, tip to tip of Nova Scotia, Vancouver to Jasper, down the Parkway, the Dempster Highway, Golden and Silver Triangle, a loop through the Yukon, a month in Italy and down the Baja Peninsula.
This year I am delighted to cycle for pleasure but also for the Stollery. I had a child that had medical problems, before the days of the Stollery , so I know the stress and pain that goes with that journey. Time to give back.
I AM NO GREAT ATHLETE, JUST LOVE TO BE IN THE GAME I know the ride will be tough, 1760 kms, over the mountains from Haidi Gwaii to Edmonton but it will be fun with the comraderie of other like minded cyclists. I am asking for all friends, family and colleagues to help me make the fundraising of $5000.00 easier by making your pledges.
I would also like to thank Nick and his team for putting on this event.
