|Winter ride in preparation for the Haida Gwaii Totem Tour|
|My wife Catherine and I have been blessed with 4 beautiful children, the youngest of who was born with a rare neurological disorder that restricted his ability to move his tongue and jaw. To help Liam survive and grow into the successful grade 11 student that he is today, we required the services and specialists of both the Toronto Sick Kids and the Stollery Children's Hospitals. We were very fortunate to have the help of both these hospitals in Liam's early years.|
Today I serve on the Board of the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation to help raise funds for the Hospital so that it can continue to be a centre of excellence for children's medical care. It is the Western Canadian Centre for pediatric cardiac surgery and a national leader in organ transplantation with a patient base of 1.7 million children from all over Canada.
Our ride from Haida Gwaii to Edmonton will serve to emphasize the geographic extent of the communities and the people that rely on the Stollery Children's Hospital. To complete the 1760km ride will require more than 14 days of cycling at 125km per day. Most of us will also have ridden 3000 to 4000km to train for the event. Your donation to my ride effort and that of other riders will help us raise funds for the Stollery Hospital. Help us help your children.
