|Another interesting day riding through the mountains.|
|There are times in our lives when unexpected events place seemingly impossible obstacles in our path. Like the impromptu creek about to wash out the Icefields Highway on a ride last summer. I wasn't nearly brave enough to ride across the mess so a friend and I simply waded through. Soaked to the bone with another 65 km to ride, it made for a long, trying day on the bike.|
Different obstacles, significantly more serious, impact children and their families as they struggle to deal with major heath challenges. Since 2001, the Stollery Children's Hospital has provided world-class treatment, research and much needed care for children across Western Canada.
This year I am joining a determined group of riders starting at Masset on the north end of Haida Gwaii (formerly known as Queen Charlotte Islands) and riding back to Edmonton. To make the journey more interesting, we are bringing back a totem pole, carved specifically to stand in the lobby of the Stollery Children's Hospital. The money we are raising goes toward the much-needed services provided by this extraordinary facility. The trip is over 1750 km in length and crosses the Hecate Straight, several mountain ranges, and the entire province of British Colombia and half of Alberta.
My goal is to raise $9000. With your help, we can make that a reality. I'll do the grunt work of endless training miles and the ride itself. If you can help with the fund raising, I would be most grateful.
Thank you in advance for helping the Stollery Children's Hospital continue its essential care for children and their families as they find their way through unforeseen obstacles.
